Proofpoint Enterprise Governance leverages a breakthrough architecture that overcomes the challenges of today's centralized enterprise document management system paradigms. Instead of being required to check documents into and out of a central repository, Proofpoint Enterprise Governance users are free to store and share enterprise documents the same way they always have, so organizations’ existing business practices and social conventions remain intact.
Proofpoint Digital Thread Technology for File Tracking & Management Key Capabilities:
- Track and Manage through Entire Lifecycle: Since Proofpoint Enterprise Governance tracks enterprise documents with its Digital Thread, the documents can be monitored and managed through the entire document lifecycle. Tracking and management begins upon creation or reception of a document.
- Track Across all Locations: The Digital Thread technology uses patented algorithms to allow users to track and manage enterprise documents moving through disparate systems including email, hard drives, shared drives, removable drives, Microsoft SharePoint, IBM Lotus Domino, Dropbox, and Box.net.
- Metadata Only: When an enterprise document is saved, the Digital Thread stores metadata about the file. This enables the document's identity and classification to survive location and filename changes as the document travels through an enterprise's disparate systems. To accomplish this, Proofpoint Enterprise Governance tags every document within its tracking platform. These tags act as the document’s DNA and, combined with Proofpoint's patented algorithms, allow the service to determine if and how any two documents are genetically related.
- All File Types: Since the Digital Thread never embeds information within a file, it can track any file type. It also continues to track files whose metadata has been accidentally or intentionally removed.
